Professional Career Summary
Mr. C.Kathirvelu graduated in Mechanical Engineering from College of Engineering Guindy, Madras in 1983 and a post graduate in “Machine Tool Design” from IIT, Madras, in 1985. He has joined BHEL, Tiruchirappalli in 1985 and has vast professional experience in Boiler mechanical designs and valves, Oil Field Equipment, Research and Development, Development of Advance Ultra Super Critical Boiler and Coal Research Development.
During a career spanning over 37 years in BHEL, he has played a lead role in engineering of boilers of various types and sizes, suitable for different applications. His specializations include Stress Analysis using FEA for boiler pressure part component, Piping Stress Analysis, Valves Mechanical Design, Structural and Ducting system. He also has a vast experience in Problem solving and troubleshooting of boilers during fabrication and erection.
He has played a key role in evolution of boiler designs and indigenization of technology to suit the critical parameters of boiler design. Currently he is involved in developing the eco- friendly once thru supercritical Technology and Advanced Ultra supercritical boiler designs for higher capacity units like 660 & 800 MW units.
Mr. C. Kathirvelu has widely trained for once through supercritical technology from Babcock Borsig, West Germany for Tower Type Boiler Design. He also jointly worked with M/s. Alstom, Windsor, USA for Krishnapatnam 2x800MW supercritical Boiler. He is also jointly working with IIT, Madras and Anna University, Chennai for research project of BHEL products in the Field of FEA.
He is a member in ASME, BIS, EPRI Guidelines and Institution of Engineers,Tiruchirappalli.
